Am I Expected To Fight In The Ring?

Not at all. Many students have no plans to ever step into the ring and just want to train for fitness. Whatever your goal, whether it’s fun, fitness, weight loss or just to get active, our classes can accommodate.

Students who do wish to spar or compete in the ring must first get approval from a trainer who will decide whether they are ready depending on their skill level. Unsupervised sparring between students is not allowed unless they are given prior authorization from a staff member.

Depending on how fast you learn and how often you train, students can generally expect to fight after having 3-4 months of regular sparring. Fight readiness is assessed on a case by case basis, and we will only match a student for a fight when we believe that they are strong, fit and technical enough to confidently defend themselves in the ring.

If you approved to join the sparring classes, yes, wearing protective gear is essential. You must have  shin guards, 16oz sparring gloves, a mouthguard, and a groin guard (for guys) to participate in the class. Head gear is optional. Each student must have their own gear.
